airbus a380-800

individual research

2018

With a focus on dwelling spaces, I chose Airbus A380 as my case study, firstly because I see it as the largest inhabitable space for human in the air, and secondly, aviation industry always have a faster pace compare to building industry, in terms of the application of advance technology. In order to make more profits, the first way is to reduce operational cost by making the airplane lighter. Topological optimization has been widely applied on different components on the airplane and 28% of the airplane is made from composite materials which again aim to reduce weight. The second way is to generate more revenue per flight. From a study of the seating configuration, more than half of the profits are generated by 16% of passengers in first class and business class. For the economy class, airliners will just want to compact more passengers in a limited space. However, the personal space in the cabin is divided perpendicularly to floor plane and the narrow seats create a lot of awkwrad moments, as the space defined by our body is not always orthogonal...
